There’s so many great songs on Mellon Collie. But there’s something about Jellybelly that just encapsulates the entire feeling of the late 90s and being a teenager. The way the song continues to crescendo and build is just an incredible feeling. The feeling of youth, and uncertainty. The feelings of puppy love and your first girlfriend and the moment when you first kiss. When your whole life is right in front of you and you feel like everything is going perfect but could also derail at any moment. All of these things together is how Jellybelly makes me feel. Z

"Zero" is a close second, but "Cherub Rock" will always be my favorite riff/composition from Billy. I just love how it is dense, dirty, and somehow dreamy all at the same time. The riff is played with tiny little human imperfections in the strumming pattern that give it a unique and incredibly relatable feel, if that makes sense. Like, the human error in it makes it come off as, well, more human, like something I could do, but it also makes it come off as something I can never hope to replicate unless I take control of Billy Corgan's mind, it's perplexing and truly amazing! And it's perfectly accompanied by the transcendent bass tone and the elephant stomping of the drums, it's honestly their magnum opus! I find it funny that it was one of the last songs I discovered by the band, my dad is a gigantic fan and I mostly heard "Today", "Bullet with Butterfly Wings", "Zero", ESPECIALLY "1979", and oddly enough "Ava Adore" all the time growing up, along with "The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning" and "The End Is the Beginning Is the End" because I love comic book films, but I never heard hits like "Mayonnaise" and "Cherub Rock" until I started investigating them myself at an older age.
